viridian5 [Added: 03/16/03 | Clark Lex]Very, very strange little fic about what happens in Smallville when Lex and Clark go fishing. I love the style, reminded me a bit of ‘Hitchhiker’s Guide’- and there’s a definite sense of the surreal. Of course, I wasn’t surprised that even the fish can get turned on by bald billionaires. Seriously- who doesn’t?
ingrid_m [Added: 03/16/03 | Clark Lex]Snerk. Snerk again. This one just cracks me up. It’s not my usual angsty, long, plot driven type o’ thing. But it made me snerk. A lot. Inspired by spoilers from season 2, it starts off with Lex engaged- and not to Clark. In fact, he’s engaged to a… WOMAN! ACK. Snerk. Only two people on earth think it’s a bad idea- and Clark is one of them. My favorite thing- everyone else’s reactions to Clark bitching about how wrong it is for Lex to be engaged to the chick. It’s just so damn funny! I somehow doubt the episode will give me this much joy. Snerk.
debchan [Added: 03/16/03 | Clark Lex]Clark attempts to use a pie analogy to explain his secret to Lex. Lex misinterprets. Smuttiness ensues. Seriously kick ass dialogue of a quality rarely found on the show or in fanfic. A quick read that will have you rolling on the floor.
While not quite as LOL funny as some of the more blatant humor stories, I love how this fanfic celebrates the ‘Oddness’ that is Smallville- and how all of the ‘Smallvillians’ seem to take it for granted. It’s got stoned cattle and hitmen and student politics and pie. What more can you ask for? Oh yea- naked Clark. Floating naked Clark. Much witty banter follows. Big thumbs up!
This is an x-over with ‘Enterprise’, which I don’t watch. I’ll admit to skimming the very beginning, right up until the shuttle lands and Malcolm and Captain Archer have to figure out the strange new world of 2002 Smallville. Some REALLY funny really horny encounters ensue. Not Clex, but in this case, I didn’t mind. Pure cheesy parody that’s worth a look even if you’ve never seen ‘Enterprise’ either!
SnerkPie! I almost didn’t read this one because it’s an x-over with half a dozen other shows (West Wing; Angel; X-Files; Um, some other stuff)- and I don’t like x-overs as a rule, nor do I watch all of the shows. I really need to stop judging stories before I read them! This is a brilliant parody, set in the White House (Bartlet/WW is president, not Lex) on ‘Crackpots Day’. It’s, well, the day the WH deals with all of the paranormal crap- much of which is ‘real’. While Lex, Lionel and a velvet-lined handcuffs wearing Clark talk to C.J. and Toby, Pete is banished to the cafeteria, where all of the plotline deprived black guys from the other shows ALSO end up. Hmmm. Could it be the start of a movement? Well, it probably should be, but my mind is still fixated on the image of Lex in a smoking jacket, sipping cognac and listening to Barry White.

It sucks more than… some great big sucking thing.” - So says Goth!Clark, in what has to be one of the funniest, sweetest, most fun little fanfic I’ve read. A great ‘15-year old Clark voice’ drives this collection of random musings by the rebellious teen- though it’s hard for a sweet boy to rebel when stuck in the wilds of the Kansas corn fields. The fact that Clark keeps busting the laces of his leather pants every time he gets near Lex is tremendously enjoyable as well. It’ll put a smile on your face, I guarantee.
astolat [Added: 03/16/03 | Clark Lex]Fairly short but extremely powerful future fic that starts off with a funeral and gets DARKER from there. The whole thing is actually set in a cemetery, and while there’s no physical bondage to be found, this story has everything to do with power and control and obsession. Very dark, very good- desolate Clark, implacable Lex. (It reminded me of the prophesies in ‘Hourglass’.)
Set sometime post-Jitters/pre-Kinetic, this fanfic reads just like a (really good) episode of the show. Wish we had more like it. The basic premise- Chloe’s going to the Winter Ball in order to write it up for the Torch. Will Clark take her? More importantly, what’s going to happen when Lionel shows up for his inspection of the plant? I enjoyed the action-filled plot, the dead-on characterizations, the great depiction of the Clark/Lex friendship, and the dialogue that I could ‘hear’ in my head. A really well-rounded story that’s fun to read.

This story just made me all kinds of happy, so it’s going up even if it ISN’T a giant, sprawling, plot driven load of angst. Premise- the day after ‘Jitters’, Lex is gifted with a dog. Why the hell would Lionel send him a dog? Lex doubts that he would! So, it’s off to the Kent farm, where you’ll find TONS of great Lex-Kent family interactions in which I loved ALL of the characters. I adore that sort of thing! And the author references ‘Watchers’- my favorite Koontz novel!! And there’s Lex lusting. And there’s Lex not remembering phone calls to the Kents while drugged up the night before. And there’s an ending that damn near brought a tear to my eye. So good, so right, so need to go read it again!

Good Lord, this woman can write! The first part of this two part story (a nice, long story, may I add) is one of my favorites in the entire fandom. It’s a future fic, an odd twist on ‘Hourglass’’ prophecies, and it’s very dark stuff. I love it. Lex is on the run in a burned out world. You probably won’t be surprised to find out who he’s running from- but you will be surprised by the ‘why’. The second half may not be quite as compelling, but it still took my breath away. If I had to sum up the theme of this story, I’d say ‘True love prevails. And maybe sometimes, it shouldn’t.’ Of course, that’s just my take on things, and this story has generated quite a bit of discussion, both on TWoP and other places. All I can say- it’s masterful work and jenn creates a world you really must experience. Go read it, you’ll be glad you did.

A gut wrenching future fic that is darker than nightmare and twice as disturbing. It is told mostly through retrospect (Clark’s) as Clark makes his annual return to Smallville. He and Lex are together and Superman (of a sort) exists, but this is a twisted realm and Te most brilliantly creates a world in which all of the darkness makes sense. It’s not a pretty story, but it is beautifully told. One of the most unsettling things I’ve ever read. “Black hides all stains, and the people reveled in a hero so… human.”

Here’s a story in which time is fluid- and it has two versions of Lex, so you know it must be good. Set (mostly) during the first season, Lex has an odd habit of showing up and trying to break up Lex and Clark (who aren’t even together- yet). It’s very odd, in a good way. I like this story because the plot kept my attention- I was wondering what was going on and how it would all work out. I also particularly like this version of Lex, who doesn’t trust himself not to hurt Clark- with good reason, as it turns out. Lex even flees back to Metropolis in an attempt to cut himself off from Clark. Does it work? Give me a break- those two have a destiny! The epilogue I adore, it really pulls the whole thing together in a way that I found extremely satisfying. Good story- go read.

Stunning, complex, and beautifully written, this fan fiction is a must read. It picks up post-Hourglass, and Lex just can’t let the prophesies go. You know what they say about curiosity and cats? Well, Lex is about to get a little first hand experience. Stunning characterizations of Lex, Clark, and I LOVED Jonathan in this story. I don’t want to spoil it here, so I’ll save more talk for inside. Let’s just say I can’t recommend this story highly enough- lots of angst in a very intelligent package. Oh- and it’s slashy, but that’s not the focus and there’s no real sex. There shouldn’t have been- that’s not what this story is about.

This is a masterfully written Clark/Lex story that’s a true science fiction tale. Odd, given the nature of Clark’s paternity, that there aren’t more of them. The author cites the novel ‘Q Squared’ (Star Trek) as partial inspiration for the tale- if that gives you a hint of where things are going. If it doesn’t- well, just think multiple dimensions coexisting, and you’ll get the idea. This is one of my absolute favorite stories, in large part due to the fact it HAS a plot- a wonderful, complex and compelling plot! One that took a truly skilled writer to tell. Go read it now!

This is my favorite Lionel representation- ever. This version of the ‘Magnificent Bastard’ is simply stunning. All of jenn’s fan fiction is good, she’s a fantastic writer with a great vision, but this short story just kicks me in the gut. It grabbed me from the start: “Call at five am, and it was the one he’d waited for every night since Lex’s fifteenth birthday, since that first time that should have been a blur of memory by now but didn’t fade even for the brandy bottles downstairs.” Jeesh- it’s so good, it makes my teeth ache. An added bonus is the way Lex ends up in the hospital- because I always thought it was a lot more likely to happen than is normally portrayed in fanfic. Great story on all levels, but particularly for its portrayals of a man who loves his son so much he hurts- and the son who will probably never know it.

This is a future fic featuring Superman and Lex. These aren’t super-angsty versions of the characters, there was no massive falling out between Clark and Lex. In this version of the story, Lex simply returned to Metropolis and the two grew apart. The fanfic starts out with Superman flying around, being a hero, and stumbling across a masked figure sneaking around where he shouldn’t be. Hm- who could it be and why is he there? There are a lot of nice details in this story, great characters, a fun sense of humor and I particularly like Lex (duh) and what he’s up to. It’s sort of a ‘noble’ ‘action’ Lex, and I can dig that. It’s very nicely written and just bloody interesting to read- I was always trying to figure out what would happen next. Ah- the joys of a plot! The ending kicks butt too. Oh yea- did I mention Superman was gay? Just so you know- some things were simply meant to be.

This short story gifts us with one of my favorite Lex characterizations. It begins with a familiar scene- Lex in a wrecked car. Stuck in the snow, bruised and battered, Lex reflects on what he wishes, what he regrets, what he is. The dialogue, particularly the early internal dialogue, is flawlessly executed. You’ll feel as if you’re in Lex’s skull. It’s a dark place, but the wry, acerbic wit makes it an interesting visit. Does Lex get rescued? If so, by whom? That’s kind of a ‘no duh’ there, and the second half of this story is simply sweetness as the boys snuggle, fear, confess, and scrump like bunnies. And in the end- everybody will get hot chocolate! Yea! Go read it!
thete1 [Added: 03/17/03 | Clark Lex]This future fic begins with a VERY pissed off Superman confronting Lex Luthor over yet another of his plans that could have gotten people killed. At this point, Supes just loses it. Seriously. Great character study of Lex, who knows that what’s going on between him and the man of steel is twisted- but isn’t sure he cares. Good, rough, and definitely damaged portrayals.
spike21 [Added: 03/17/03 | Clark Lex]So, the second season starts up, leaves everyone but me wanting nice, happy, fluffy-bunny Clex- and I want… THIS. Mmm mmm good. This is set slightly in the future and begins as so many stories do- with Clark saving Lex from a kidnap plot. Sorta. I really can’t imagine the events it will take to drive Clark and Lex to be true enemies, and this story isn’t meant to address said issues. However, if the day ever comes, this is how I see their relationship ending up. It’s just a boiling mix of hatred and anger and hurt and love and need and seeeeexxxxxx. Beautifully written little gut-punch of a story about two men who are bound together in all of the best ways- and all of the worst.
Really a short PWP, but with some nice BDSM imagery. A quick Clex read, but well written and HOT. This fandom needs more ‘boys in bondage’ tales like this!
kittyfisher [Added: 03/17/03 | Clark Lex]Heed the warnings on this one, children. Tis dark and very, very ugly. This very AU future fic starts off with Lex sitting in a cell. He’s been a prisoner for two years that would have broken anyone else- and would have killed him if not for his mutant ability to heal. Luthor Corp rules a world in ruins, and the rebellious son is numero uno on Daddy’s shit list. It ain’t a pleasant place to be, and the only one who can save Lex is dead and rotting- or so he thinks. Kinda a happy fic once you wash away all of the blood, rape and pain!! Christ, I love this story- and this Lex!
kittyfisher [Added: 03/17/03 | Clark Lex]This dark tale is set in early season 2. Lionel is not happy with Lex. Not at all. He shows up drunk and expresses his disappointment in no uncertain terms. And then we get Clex hurt/comfort. Yay! I love Lionel, but I don’t particularly mind dark versions of him either. This is one such dark version, as an added bonus, it has a happy(ish) tone in the end. Scheming Lex, protective Clark, bastardly Magnificent Bastard. Yum! But watch the warnings, this one is hard core.
cjandre [Added: 03/17/03 | Clark Lex]The ‘Clex-Fest’ has produced some great fic, but I think this is probably my favorite. I look at it as ‘Clark’s descent into madness’- and it’s VERY well done. Great Clark and great Lex, and more secondary characters than I normally see in fanfic. The premise is that Clark was more deeply affected by the ‘scarecrow incident’ than has been portrayed on the show, and this manifests as dreams he should find horrifying- but doesn’t. The author makes the characters very real, very believable. I really ‘get’ why Clark can’t share his secrets and I love why Lex doesn’t push him on it. Great stuff. I love it when Clark is the one who needs to be saved!
ARGH! So, so good. So, so angsty. I love this fic, it’s downright subversive. Set in a future where Clark/Superman and Lex are enemies, it starts of dark and nasty. Then it gets sexy. Then it gets bittersweet/sad. I don’t want to spoil things, but I will note this is a story worth reading twice. Absolutely stunning ending- and we really shouldn’t be surprised when the two most powerful beings on this planet share similar ‘Archilles’ heels’.
ingrid_m [Added: 03/17/03 | Lex Lionel Martha]Post-Nocturne ‘gen’ story. Lex notices something disturbingly familiar about Martha’s perfume. Excellent character piece that just nails Lex and Lionel- and their feelings for the women in their lives. Short and bittersweet. I hope the show plays up the dynamic Martha adds to the Luthor household as well as this story does. (Well, so much for that wish!)
This little interlude isn’t my usual thing, but it’s a well written bit of fluffy Clark/Lex friendship and I love Lex’s ‘inner-geek’ in this tale. To sum it up- Lex is in search of a very special ‘Warrior Angel’ issue. Clark doesn’t get the appeal, but that doesn’t stop him from trying to help his buddy out. Really nice voices for both characters. I wish there was more friendship stuff like this out there.
There are quite a few time travel fics I like, and this is definitely one of them. Set around present day (s2)Smallville, Lex and Clark are ‘together’, though their relationship is a secret and Lex fears it can never truly last. When time travelers from the future arrive, it seems Lex was right. Or maybe not. Bittersweet stuff with enough plot to suck you in and keep you reading. It’s a sorta hopeful tale, even when you know things are doomed. Kinda like Clark and Lex.
basingstoke [Added: 03/17/03 | Clark Lex]A very nice characterization of Lex in this post-Vortex story. It examines Lex dealing with the aftermath of both killing a man and his interactions with his father. I love both the angst and the Lex/Kent family interactions that follow. Very good read- dark, but not without hope. I’m always a sucker for the idea that Clark may be Lex’s savior and Basingstoke writes with a very sure hand.
joyfulgirl41 [Added: 03/17/03 | Clark Lex]This future fic set in Metropolis begins with Lex’s wife giving birth to their daughter Lily, and dying in the process. You’ll find a Clark who’s Superman, and a Lex/Clark rift that began when Lex announced his intent to go through with his ‘arranged’ marriage. When Lex’s little girl has an accident, guess who’s there to save her? This starts off a really interesting read that’s part mystery, part character study, part love story. Good stuff all around, and I liked Jonathan and Martha’s reactions and LOVED Lex with his daughter!
