Hee- cute, shortish, well written bit of future fic fluff. No matter how evil Lex gets, he just can’t seem to get a rise out of ‘Superman’. When he notices Clark has a jealous streak, well he just has to capitalize on it. Superman strikes back. Worth the read, particularly if you like your Superman a bit on the dominant side!
Um- wow. That was just odd. I’ve been relying a lot on rec sites for my fanfic fix, and now I kind of remember why. I checked the story out because I always like Lex/Lionel interaction, in whatever form. This was just- odd.
Kudos for the beginning, because I fell for the trick. Writing could use a beta- particularly at the beginning, I got lost on who was saying and doing what (which was sort of the point, but the writing was still awkward). But the real kicker for me was the characterizations. I just wasn’t buying it. Not Lex, not Lionel. Short, quick, bizarre read. It’s like watching a bad car accident- I couldn’t look away.
OK, trying this one because it sounds like bondage fun! It is- just a short, decently written pwp, with a fairly dom Clark and Lex in cuffs. Worth the read if that’s your sort of thing- though this line inadvertantly cracked me up: Clark pulled off the rigid cock and licked up along it slowly. Heh.
Link goes to the last LJ post- wait to rec until all 3 books are up on SSA. Yea, this is my kind of story. A huge, sprawling, slightly future fic that veered from canon back at ‘Lineage’. I think it was partially inspired by ‘Ransom’? Need to double check that. Anyway, good story. It’s all about Clark and the Kents getting kidnapped and Lex (with some help from Chloe) spending years searching for them. Lots of action and plot and intrigue and I really like the characterizations. ‘Action’ Lex is a personal fav, and I like how he feels unworthy, how he desperately wants to be a part of a family, how he’s willing to sacrifice just about anything to get Clark back. The characterization hits a lot of my kinks. Might be painted with slightly broader strokes than I personally prefer, but a damn good read. Do note- this one earned its rating.
For switchknife’s Death Challenge, checked it out on a rec from ntamara. Hm, so Vernon dies and Harry has two weeks left before he can leave the house and they’re running out of food. So, he has to get Dudley to let him out of the house to buy food. And when he goes to ask, he catches Dudley wanking. That’s about it. Well written story- I actually quite like the style and use of details. But, I just didn’t much see the point of it. It was like a ‘grocery shopping pwp’ or something.
Heh- hot and smutty Harry/Snape. It’s summer, and Harry is staying at Hogwarts (16). He finds Snape a less irritating host than he would have imagined- and actually, the first part of this short pwp was my favorite part- where Harry is going on about the various professors and how well he got on with them. The smutty part comes in when Harry finds Snape asleep in bed- naked. Sometimes a boy just can’t help himself! I liked this fic, I liked the writing. But man, I’m really in the mood for some good HP gen fic!
Though it’s pretty much a pwp, it reads like poetry and has a really nice characterization of Lex. I like how he’s really trying not to pursue Clark- and Clark won’t let him be virtuous. It also has sex. Beautiful, beautiful sex. It reads like Lex is vying with the sun for the honor of touching Clark. Clark as the modern Ra? Yea, that’s an interpretation I can buy. Like the nods to mythology as well. If you want hot, steamy, sensuous first time Clex, this is a nice one.
From a rec on TWOP, for Lex/Superman future fic. Fairly short, nicely written, a bit tongue in cheek tale of how Lex decides he’s tired of fighting. Of course, being Lex, he can’t simply call a truce. Just slightly more story than a pwp, and a nice way to spend 15 minutes. Solid, standard fare.
A story I’d read ages ago and just visited again, this is a creative bit of fantasy, featuring Lilian’s ghost who comes back every halloween. We see Lex and Clark through her eyes, from 2001-2004. Because she doesn’t know what happens during the rest of the year, we piece together the boys changing relationship through the events of each night. It’s a sweet little fic (the premise allows us to cover a lot of story while still being a short read) with a good heart, and I like the mechanism through which the story is told. Solid writing and a good denial fic. It doesn’t really stick with me, but I definitely enjoyed reading it and it was something different from the standard fare.
From a ntamara rec. A very short gen. drabble, based on the fairytale ‘Sleeping Beauty’. Harry plays ‘Beauty’ while Snape is the evil witch who casts the curse. It was cute/clever and I particularly liked the last lines. Interesting how it could fit into canon. I’d rec it if I were remotely into drabbles. But I’m not.
I stopped reading this series a really long time ago. So long ago, I figured I’d try it again. This chapter in the ‘established relationship’ Clex series parallels the ‘Skinwalker’ episode. Solid writing, a nice long chunk of story, and plenty of plot- but I remembered why I stopped reading it. It just feels really episodic to me- kinda like a soap opera. It’s low on action with a very heavy focus on relationships and people talking about things. Basically, I just end up bored. Lex also comes across a little weaker than I prefer. Damn shame, really. I love long, plotty stories- and this series just goes on and on. Just not my style of storytelling. (Also strikes me as ‘off’ that half the characters are ‘bi’ at some point during the series. Jonathan, Whitney, Lana, Chloe, Lionel, Dominic, etc. I keep expecting the ‘Pete comes out’ episode.)
This is a well crafted tale that I read some time ago. It’s set at the beginning of the second season, after Lionel had regained his sight. It begins like something out of a fairytale, with a creepy little man showing up at LuthorCorp to demand that Lionel fulfill his end of a contract. The creepy little man seems even less human than Lionel on a bad day, and the contract involves Lex and his 22nd birthday. And then… it’s off to Smallville, where things are pretty normal. Considering it’s Smallville, things are exceedingly normal.
Now, I want to note- this was a hell of a way to begin the story. Just having that little scene at the beginning made me view all of the ‘normal’ with a suspicious eye. You KNOW something bad and creepy is lurking around in the corners, and it adds spice to the more mundane (though well written) adventures of Clark and crew trying to plan Lex a birthday party. The whole time, I’m sitting there trying to figure out what the creepy little man is up to. At the same time, it was nice to read about a Smallville that (seemed) to have accepted Lex and to see Lex happy and striking out on his own. Nice dichotomy there. Anyway, sure enough, the creepy little man shows up with an antiquity that Lex might be interested in. It’s a mirror with more than a touch of magic about it. Lex is intrigued, and as he spends more and more time with his new toy, Smallville goes to hell.
This is a nice, plotty story with excellent characterizations. I loved that Clark, Chloe, Lana and Pete all came together to work on the problems vexing both Lex and the town. I REALLY wish the show had given us more of that and less of the stupid love stories. This is also an interesting portrayal of Lex. I liked how his curiosity compels him- and I love how he’s tried to turn that off when he’s around Clark. But there’s bitterness there as well, and while Lex may be willing to swallow Clark’s lies, it becomes apparent that he is not so able to digest them. This isn’t my favorite Lex story- there’s a section in the middle where he’s a bit more… passive? distracted? Something. Anyway, it bogged down for me just a little in there, but partly that’s just me and the rest of the story was enough to carry it off. Good fic- good story.
[Do note- I’ve labeled this slash, because there’s sex of a sort, but not really- however Lex is clearly obsessed with Clark, so I figure that’s the best place to put it.]
I was torn on this fic. On the one hand, the core story is a kind of ‘kink’ of mine (not a sexual one, but I can’t think of a better term) and I think the story has a lot of heart. On the other hand, part of the premise is one I just freaking HATE. Seriously. I’ve read exactly one story that uses the premise that didn’t make me barf. In addition, the writing didn’t quite do it for me. Not bad, but it could use some polish- pov tends to slip, and it’s definitely a bit heavy handed and ‘expositiony’. I will say I dug the start, which kicks off post-GoF with Severus badly wounded and in the hospital. He’s in need of a transfusion, and only Harry can help. I liked Snape and I liked Harry in this mid-sized story. Like I say, it has a sweet heart. I’ll be watching the author, because I think their instincts are good. This story didn’t quite do it for me, but it did hold my interest. [lj-cut]
Now, the spoilery bits so I can remember what the hell happened in this story! Note- the author does a nice job of drawing things out, and though I kinda guessed where things were going, that’s definitely one of the draws for this tale. The ‘kink’ part was Harry as Severus’ son. I admit, that tends to set up a situation I enjoy. HOWEVER, Harry is Severus and James’ son. Yea. MPRG. God, I hate that. I mean, it’s well enough handled here and I didn’t have to actually read about the pregnancy, but still. I hate that shit. If the other elements had been stronger, I might have rec’ed it anyway (and big bonus points for ‘suffering Snape’), but overall it just didn’t quite do it for me. [/lj-cut]
Jenn is usually a ‘money’ author for me, and this is a remix of RivkaT’s “Golden Rule” which I have rec’ed- which makes it all the more puzzling that this story didn’t do much for me. It’s not bad- I always enjoy jenn’s style and the ‘Golden Rule’ story is an interesting one (future fic, Superman and Lex were enemies, Lex gets bonked on the head and can’t remember anything post-wedding to Helen, Clark takes advantage of that fact)- but this fairly short read doesn’t add much to the original story and it seemed a bit disjointed to me. Eh. Worth the read, but I won’t visit it more than once.
This is an interesting AU that I’d read chunks of prior to completion. It breaks from canon way back with Clark’s landing, and Lex and Clark end up being raised as brothers by Martha and Lionel. It’s an interesting read and I tend to enjoy both the pairing of Martha and Lionel and Clex as brothers. I also liked all of the changes that followed from the AU break and I thought the Martha characterization was really interesting. That said, the story didn’t really ‘grab’ me. I’m not sure why. I felt a little distanced from the characters, Lex in particular. It’s not that I didn’t enjoy the characterizations or that I wasn’t interested in following the story- but I’ve no desire to read this fic twice. It is, however, worth reading once!
This mid-sized chunk of established relationship future-fic made me happy. It didn’t ‘stick to my ribs’, but I definitely enjoyed it. Really, not a hell of a lot happens, but it explores Clark’s early days working at the Daily Planet, working with Lois Lane, and juggling his newspaper duties with his Superman life and his relationship with Lex Luthor. Clark is just sweet- and a dolt. A sweet dolt who really, really loves Lex. It definitely made me grin a few times. I’m not recommending it, what with the lack of ‘stick’, but I DO recommend you read it. Pleasurable way to burn half and hour.
Read this one based on a ‘Frenzy’ suggestion, and boy, am I glad I did! Hm, must start asking folks for their name when they suggest a fic, because I’d definitely be happy to check out more stories rec’ed by this person. Anyway, something I should make clear before I get into the story. I’ve never seen Blake’s 7 and my knowledge of canon is ‘iffy’ and second hand. Now, I think a good fanfic differs from original fiction in that fanfic really shouldn’t try to appeal to non-fans. What I mean is, fanfic needs less emphasis on establishing the backdrop of a story and a backdrop for its characters- and when fanfic TRIES to read like original fic in that regard, it may seem a bit repetitive or simplistic or silly to the fans who are the main audience. This is not necessarily the case- but I maintain that fanfic and original fic ‘read’ differently and should be judged on slightly different criteria. Anyway- my way of saying, in general, I’m not into reading fanfic when I’m not fairly familiar with the source.
Now, that long ramble aside, prior to this rec, Blake’s 7 is one of only 2 fandoms I’ve read while not being familiar with the source. ‘Smallville’ was the other one- the fic got me into the show- but even with ‘Smallville’, well, I did know the basics of Lex and Superman! But ‘Blake’s 7’ is a fandom I’ve read some in and have no real desire to see the source. I’ve read episode guides, seen pictures and a few vids, I already know that Avon is the character that grabs me in this series- and I’m fascinated by the Avon/Blake dynamic. I mostly don’t want to see the show because I know it’s cheesey- cheesey like ‘Star Trek’ was cheesey, but I grew up on ‘Trek’ and I still tend to view it through young eyes, wowed by the concepts and blind to the cheese. Anyway, point being- I’m not overly familiar with ‘Blake’s 7’ yet I undeniably feel the appeal of the concepts and characters that make up the universe. I loved getting this rec, because ‘The Haunting of Haderon’ is the first B7 story I’ve read that stands on its own, accessible to non-fans, and yet still deeply seated in the B7 universe. It’s a good fic, and you can enjoy it whether you are familiar with B7 canon or not- yet it’s not written in such a way to ‘talk down to’ fans of the show.[lj-cut]
The premise is a good one (and the story equivalent to an ‘X-Files’ case file story)- Blake’s still around, Captain of the Liberator, and on a mission to help an outlying system implement an early warning detection system against the Federation. His efforts take him and the crew of the Liberator to the planet Haderon, where the natives seem friendly enough but warn against going into the great desert that covers the planet. Seems the natives believe their are ‘Haunts’ that exist in the desert and who destroy any who dare to venture beyond the confines of the human settlement. Blake and crew, knowing there are no other life forms around, dismiss this as silly superstition and get on with the work of implementing the early warning detection system. Of course, the reader suspects something more is at play, and I was immediately drawn in by the mystery of the ‘haunts’. The plot thickens (and you know I dig plot) when Avon (yea!) finds reason to suspect the colonists are not as friendly as they appear, and his investigations land both himself and Vila into trouble. BIG trouble. As Avon and Vila worry with staying alive, Blake and the rest of the crew try to figure out what’s happened to their missing crew-mates and what role the colonists may play in it.
This is just a damn good story- a long tale, told mostly through Vila’s pov. Vila I can take or leave, but I very much enjoyed his portrayal here. I really loved this version of Avon (who is not un-Snape-like in some respects), and the author does a nice job of balancing his rationality, self-preservation and loyalty. Blake is also well portrayed, and I enjoyed the contrast between Blake and Avon. They aren’t ‘on-screen’ together that much, but the contrasts are still evident. In short- a definite rec. This is simply a good story, whether you know much about B7 or not. From my limited knowledge of the show, I’d say it should also work well for fans. Rec me more stuff like this, folks. It gives me a happy.
[Note- link goes to the main archive, you’ll have to find it from there. Why the FUCK do people pass hit counters in the main story url? Seriously, that’s just irritating.][/lj-cut]
Sequel to ‘Fine Lines’- haven’t read.
Post-OotP and the kids are back at school. Harry is in a deep, deep funk and Snape insists he snap out of it. What follows is an odd/inderesting mix of action/adventure, magic and sex. It’s not bad- I rather liked the beginning, though both Snape and Harry were a bit too nice for this stage in canon. But the story reads kind of schizo and has a kind of WTF premise. Seems Voldemort wants Snape to have sex with Harry for no reason anyone can figure out. Including me. Dumbledore supports this, mostly to protect Snape and his cover. When Snape fears he’s falling for Harry, they let the story leak to the Ministry in order to have a legitimate reason to stop. When the ministry investigates, Snape basically tells them it won’t happen again, and they go along with it. About this time, Harry’s falling for Ginny. Like I said- WTF? I mean, it’s not bad, but I had to swallow too many plot points and it seemed like about three different stories all woven together in a way that was less than cohesive. Hell, I really don’t even know how to classify it, though I’m going to stick it in ‘slash’.
This is an interesting fic, found in my wanderings through FFN. Set post-OotP, it appeals to my love of Snape torture and the writing is solid. Basically, Snape gets his ass kicked by Voldemort one time too many and just seriously starts to lose it. Dumbledore sends him off on vacation with Remus along to make sure he doesn’t do himself harm. It’s actually an interesting read, and if Snape cries a time or two, I thought it worked pretty well given the story is all about how Snape is trying to hold it together and not being completely successful. I enjoyed the story. There’s not quite enough story, and I’m not a huge fan of Snape/Remus, but it was a good read. Really needs a sequel or something to pull it all together and I might rec it. As it stands- a decent read.
Wandering through FFN and found this. I liked the idea- Snape gets hit by a potion gone awry and is de-aged to 15. He ends up playing the part of student, being sorted into Gryffindor, hooking up with Hermione, etc. Lots of action/adventure (more a gen story than a romance), which I dig. The story could use a massive edit, more for size than writing, which was okay. It was just slow- which really doesn’t work for action/adventure. Also, I wasn’t so sure about the characterizations (Ron really got screwed over and this Snape was pretty far from canon). Anyway, neat ideas but the execution didn’t thrill me.
Very interesting and very AU, the story is based on the premise that Peter took Harry’s place just before he was taken to Hogwart’s by Hagrid. While ‘Peter in disguise’ lives the life that should have been Harry’s, Harry is left trapped in the Riddle mansion with only a diary for company. The story is an excellent AU, and MUCH changes as a result of Harry’s interactions with ‘Tom’. In fact, who the ‘heros’ are is very much open to debate. Tom/Voldemort is not redeemed, but neither is he the insane psychopath from the books. Likewise, while the Dumbledore of the books obviously tends to manipulate those around him, I doubt that he would prefer a Doppleganger for his hero. This is, clearly, a dark story and not for all tastes. Still, I found it fascinating, particularly the portrayal of Snape, who comes across as the best of them all. He is trapped between two harsh masters, yet dedicated to Harry and to giving Harry a choice in who he wants to be. I liked it and I liked the ending.
Hee. And ‘hee’ some more. This is a Buffy/Harry Potter x-over featuring my favorite Watcher. Nifty idea! It actually makes some sense that Giles is a wizard and went to Hogwarts. Well, it makes as much sense as the respective source materials do. This is set post-Buffy’s death (no ‘potentials’ storyline), and Giles has gone back to take over the DADA post. Like I said- nifty idea. This is really just a vignette, not a full blown story, but it lays out some interesting history and I liked the style. I cracked up at:
I’m not facing two hours of dinner conversation with Severus Snape by myself.”
“You’ve had years to work up to it. I’d think you’d be prepared by now.”
“Albus, I was on the Hellmouth, not in Hell. I am absolutely not prepared.”
On the negative side, not much story here and I just cannot, or will not, imagine Giles and Albus as a pairing (thank you baby Jesus there was no sex). Still, worth the read- I just had to scrub my brain out afterward.
Funny, funny fic (though not a ‘humor’ fic) told with a crapload of style! This is really a cliche fic that kicks off with the guys ending up in enemy hands and getting dosed with truth serum. Turns out, the truth is they want to shag the daylights out of each other! Actually, they ‘take one for the team’ in an effort to ferret out an UNCLE mole, but the truth serum didn’t hurt.
What I liked about this mid-sized story is the style- the author has a really clean writing style, a flair for humorous dialog, and an appealing approach to the characters. This is virtually angst free stuff, and for once, I really liked that. I’ve read a lot of stories where one or both of the guys angsts about their attraction or the possible ramifications of a relationship and this was nice change of pace. I’m going to check out this author’s other work- her flair for writing beats a lot of pro fic I’ve read. Good stuff.
Oh, how I loved ‘I Spy’! It’s odd I’ve never found any fic for it, especially as it really fits the slash profile. Two pretty men, dangerous situations, lots of guns and lots of girls and at the end of the day, the boys always go home together. As per usually, I’d prefer gen fic, but DAMN, this is slash done right. It doesn’t hurt that the story is a coda to my favorite episode, ‘It’s All Done With Mirrors’. In that episode, Kelly was tortured and brainwashed in an effort to get him to kill Scotty. Fortunately, their bond was too strong, though Kelly did attempt to throw himself off a cliff after failing his programing. This tightly written tale, told from Scotty’s pov, looks at what it took to break Kelly down and what it will take to pull him back together.
This isn’t my usual rec- it examines the aftermath of the action rather than the action itself. In fact, the story boils down to a debriefing and some sex. I’m rec’ing it anyway. It caps one of my favorite episodes and it really ‘gets’ the bond between the guys. Excellent writing and characterizations don’t hurt either!
Found this from an Isis rec, which are always a safe bet. It’s different and I very much like it. Just a short little story about Mr. Potter, who seems to be a very normal man living his very normal life. A boring life, really. Except for the owls, which keep flocking around his house, and the strange men who seem to lurk around corners or at the local market. Mr. Potter’s therapist wants to know how this makes him feel. It makes him feel as if he’s going mad.
Hee! This is a subversive little vignette. It’s best read ‘cold’, but knowing it’s a post-war fic defintely helps you piece things together. I like stories that make you fill in the blanks and this has a surreal edge to it that appealed. Not enough of a full blown story for me to actually rec, but I’d definitely say it’s a ‘must read’. Well written and interesting.
Good fic! This is a prequel to Resonant’s Transfigurations, though the two are loosely tied together and each stands very well on its own. I’ve only skimmed ‘Transfigurations’, using my usual highlighting of the words ‘Severus Snape’ approach. There wasn’t enough Snape for me to want to read it. However, I’ve heard it’s a good one if you are interested in magic and a strong focus on Draco and Harry. Anyway, back to ‘Heartsease’. Don’t let the pairing put you off. I’m not so into Neville and Snape/Neville strikes me as a real stretch, but this story works beautifully.
It’s not remotely a romance story, more an exploration of the final days of the war against Voldemort. The story has a very tight Neville pov, and I thought it worked well here. Neville and Snape are brought together in the first place because the potions master needs an herbologist and Neville is pretty much all they have left. The war is not going well, particularly since the Dementors have clearly joined up with the DE’s. Hence Snape, who is no longer of use as a spy, has been put to the task of developing some defense. Luckily, ‘heartsease’ is a plant that the dementors seem to avoid, so Snape uses that as a starting point. Neville is assigned to help with growing the plants.
This story has an almost claustophobic feel to it, as Snape and Neville must move from safehouse to safehouse, barely one step ahead of their enemies. I was completely sucked into the world created and I could actually identify with Neville, who has a real ‘every man’ feel to him in this story. As mentioned, it’s not exactly a romance, but the way in which Neville and Snape do eventually become paired worked very well for me. Snape is a survivor of more than one war, and I thought his ‘take comfort where you can find it’ attitude really worked. That first kiss.... I was as shocked as Neville- and Snape’s reaction to Neville’s reaction was perfect. Eh, I’m not expressing it well. Let me just say, the pairing worked when I wouldn’t in a million years have imagined that it could. Just a wonderful read, full of magic and well drawn characters. I almost cried at the end. Good fic!
Wow- this future fic, set post-s7, simply has a breathtaking style. It’s very bleak, very Giles focused, and told with a sparse, detached air. The story starts at the funeral of Giles’ mother, where he meets a woman he slowly falls for. Over the course of the shortish read, we discover what the Watcher has been up to after the destruction of Sunnydale. I loved this section, the way the story is peeled back in layer after layer, each bit revealing more about Giles and the woman who becomes his lover. It works beautifully. When Giles’ father dies, it brings a new/old player to the scene in the form of Buffy. Unfortunately, Buffy is not simply there for a visit. She’s been having dreams, and Slayer dreams are rarely happy ones. Giles is into an attempt to bring his lover into a world he has tried to shield her from. The last of the story plays out in an apocalyptic storm, and Giles and Buffy do what they always have- make do with what they got. Great story- I’d love to see a sequel to it, because there are many unanswered questions. I envy this writer’s style.
OK, doing this one via a ‘Frenzy’ request. I had read it before, it’s what I’d classify as a ‘classic slash story’. Also note- the link takes you to the main site page, you’ll have to browse to the actual fic- which is marked as being a ‘beta’ version. No worries- the writing’s quite good, well above the norm. Anyway- on with the fic! This story starts just after 7th year and the fall of Voldemort. Harry wakes up in the hospital, wondering what happened. Turns out that Neville actually finished Voldmort off and Snape had to do some serious ‘old school magic’ to keep Harry alive. Yep- this is a magical bond fic, premised on the idea that Snape gave up part of his life force to Harry. However, for Harry to remain healthy, he has to stay in regular proximity to Snape- the closer the better. You see where this is going, don’t you?! I thought you might. [lj-cut]
The story is quite good- there’s a bit more magical theory than in many HP fics (something I’ll never understand) and I found Ollivander and his interactions with Snape and Harry interesting and creepy. I liked that vibe. I also thought the characterizations were good- and something I could easily imagine based on canon. Most of the story is told from Harry’s pov, and I thought the author did a nice job of balancing his temper and tendency toward self-involvement with the fact he really is a decent guy. Snape is also well drawn, and I thought Nym did an excellent job of ‘evolving’ Harry’s perspective on him. The ‘magical bond’ device really is a good one for forcing these two to be together, because these are not two men who I easily see hooking up. The dynamic between Snape and Sirius is a little nicer than I see it, but then again, Sirius is not dead in this story. There’s some slack there, and the fanfic doesn’t cross the line. However- the Sirius/Remus fans probably won’t be thrilled that their relationship is pretty much non-existent (I didn’t care and could easily see things working out as they did). Finally, I liked the end. It was happy but not sappy and it fit the story. All of that said, it’s not really a story I’d personally recommend because it just isn’t my type of story. It’s not plot intensive (though there is a plot- it’s just more ‘a year in the life’ sort of thing) and there’s little action/adventure. I probably would have been more interested in the story of how the war ended- which is where this story begins! [/lj-cut]
[**NOTE: The story has currently been pulled from the net for revision- the link will take you to Nym’s homepage, where we will hopefully hear when it has been reposted. Once it has been, I’ll relink. You might also check on http://hp.pfen.net/ for the story’s reappearance.]
When I get bored and wander around looking for fic, I always check out what’s new in the SSA. This story seemed a likely choice- a decent sized read set during s2, it’s part of the ‘Zodiac Challenge’. The premise is classic h/c. Lex gets himself busted up while out on a date and it’s Toby to the rescue. Fortunately, Toby knows that what Lex really needs isn’t stitches or meds, but Clark. With a little help from the stoner doc, Clark and Lex embrace their destiny- together.
This is a solid read- I rather like the author’s style. Toby may be a bit ‘Buddha-like’, but it was nice to see people looking out for Lex. Hell, it was really nice to see Clark looking out for Lex. This is a nice antidote when the rift gets you down. That said, it’s pretty much just a h/c piece that focuses on Lex and Clark hooking up. In short, just not enough story for my particular tastes.
