This is one of those videos I can sit and watch over and over, but it’s a bit of a guilty pleasure. The vid focuses on Clark and Lex, and at least at the beginning, it seems to be a compare/contrast sort of thing, partially focusing on their relationships with their fathers. Sorta- though I never quite figured out what the comparison was meant to show. By the second half of the video, I kind of gave up on figuring out the underlying story. That’s okay, though. This video just flows- I watch it for the movement, the underlying sense that something dark and suspenseful is going on, a couple of really sweet effects and a song that just weaves through my brain and reinforces the feeling something dark and nefarious is afoot. This one- it’s ‘slidey’ eye candy.
Viscerel response: Guilty pleasure. Big flaw in that I can’t figure out what this vid is about. First minute sorta compares Lex/Lionel to Clark/Jon- but not in a way I’m really getting the point of the comparison. Second half, I don’t get what the story is at all. Also- that 4 way split’s got to go. And I totally dig this vid. It’s freak’n hypnotic. I figured out why- cool song with great movement and I like the light effects. The car scene totally kicked ass, and the spin rocked. Also liked the split screen and the alternating cuts there. I could watch this vid all day. Oh- dig how the voice over (Lex) was a little off. That worked for me- added to the kinda surreal feel- generated a lot by the cuts and movement- and maybe the fact the story makes no sense anyway.
Hm- I really do enjoy this video and want to point out a couple of scenes that really work for me- one of the first shots- where she played with the speed when they were walking in the rain; the really saturated scene of Lex and Lionel in the hospital where it’s all purpley and then cutting to Lex in a purple shirt; when Lex tells his father ‘I’m sorry’ and the timing on the sound is a little off (I wasn’t as keen on the Clark voiceovers- but then, I wasn’t ever clear on the points being made in those Clark scenes with his dad); the scene where the car runs up on Clark- I LOVE how that was edited; the spinning scene of Clark and Lex in the mansion; the way she swapped around with the side-by-side shots and the clip choice and colors in those shots; the shot of Lex where it zooms in and pauses and then I believe it’s highly saturated/blurs almost golden.
But man- I don’t get why that 4-way split early on is in there. It struck me as really jarring and not in tune with the rest of the vid.
