This is one of the best vids I’ve ever seen.  The premise?  Remember the episode ‘Amok Time’, which first introduced the idea that Vulcans go through ‘Pon Farr’- a sort of uncontrollable heat where they must mate or die?  Yes, I thought you did.  Anyway, this vid goes AU, exploring the question ‘What if they didn’t make it back to Vulcan in time?’ Two things blow me away in this vid.  First, it completely succeeds in telling an AU story.  It works, to absolute perfection.  Even someone who had never seen the show (perhaps especially someone who had never seen the show) would understand exactly what is happening.  Second, the vid oozes technique and style.  Seriously.  I am simply stunned watching it.  Motion, movement, color, the composition of the clip choices.  Envy.  I am green with envy.  Note- I’d rate this vid ‘For mature audiences’ due to content and theme.

Visceral response:  I won’t even pretend I’m writing this up after one viewing.  Or 20 viewings.  I watched this vid- and then I put it on continuous loop.  The level of creativity it took to make this is stunning.  Anyway, here’s my gut level reaction after a million viewings!  Right from the intro, you know the vid is special.  I love how the premise is laid out with a question- ‘What if they didn’t make it back to Vulcan in time?’ Right off the bat, you know what’s going on.  And you know you are going to seem some style in the storytelling!  Crap, I’m not one to care much about flashy title screens- but when they blend so seemlessly with the vid AND manage to further the story and mood at the same time?  Art.  That’s art.  So anyway, I stare at the disjointed, sometimes blurred, sometimes to the beat sometimes not, text intro/acid trip and am already happy.  On to the actually content....  The first and most obvious reaction is to the color choice.  The sepia tone used throughout works brilliantly.
